YUNGCHRIS leading a dance workshop in a mirrored studio

YUNGCHRIS

Christopher Thomas, known as YUNGCHRIS, is a Houston-based dance artist, director, choreographer, educator, and cultural programmer. His work spans more than 20 years and 24 countries, rooted in Houston’s Black culture and street dance communities.

Through improvisation, Southern Black movement, and the stories carried in music and dance, he creates experiences that connect people onstage, in classrooms, and in community spaces.

A two-time Performing Arts Houston commissioned artist and 2025 BANF Awardee, YUNGCHRIS also works with Red Bull Texas as a cultural consultant and collaborator. His production My Posse’s on Broadway premiered at the Wortham Center and was later presented through the Hobby Center’s Discovery Series, sharing hip-hop history through a Houston lens.

As founder of Move Different and producer of Texas Street Dance Weekend, he creates space for performance, education, and cultural exchange. His mentorship includes work with Artist INC / Fresh Arts and Project Row Houses Summer Studios.

At the heart of his practice is a commitment to honoring where movement comes from and helping people make it their own.
